Stacking the Shelves #5

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews, where we all get to share the books we acquired over the past week. I had a busy week, and as a new user of NetGalley and Edelweiss, I have to say this: NetGalley and Edelweiss are DANGEROUS!! What I mean is that it seems to be dangerously easy to get books from them, and my pile of TBR books is growing faster than I can read. So I’ve learned you really have to be careful to choose wisely on these sites, because you are expected to review everything you are approved for. For those bloggers who have been using these sites for a long time, I’m sure you know what I’m talking about. To make matters worse (or I should say better!) I’ve also become part of Angry Robot’s Robot Army, which I’m very excited about.Β  You can click on the book covers to go to their Goodreads pages. OK, here we go:

From NetGalley:

The Archived by Victoria Schwab. Release date: January 22, 2013 (Hyperion). Not sure how I feel about this. NetGalley is offering a free download of the first 100 pages of this book. I’m super excited to read it, but this “sneak peek” is probably just going to drive me crazy!

The Future We Left Behind by Mike A. Lancaster. Release date: November 13, 2012 (EdgemontUSA). This was another “freebee” on NetGalley. It’s the second in a series, and looks like a great SF read.

From Edelweiss:

Vampires in the Lemon Grove by Karen Russell. Release date: February 12, 2013 (Knopf). OK, people. This is seriously exciting. I was so thrilled to be approved for this book. Karen Russell’s Swamplandia was one of my favorite books of 2011, and I also loved her first short story collection, St. Lucy’s Home for Girls Raised by Wolves. This is her second collection, and I can’t wait to read it. Thank you Knopf!

Won:

Every Day by David Levithan. Release date: August 28, 2012 (Knopf Books for Young Readers). This showed up unexpectedly, but I think I entered to win this book from a Publisher’s Weekly contest. And I’m so excited to have it. Every Day is the story of a teen who wakes up in a different body every day. Quantum Leap, anyone? Then he falls in love, and you can imagine the problems he has.

Purchased:

Skylark by Meagan Spooner. Now available. I love the cover of this book, and I can’t wait to read this story about a girl who is trying to escape from her domed world.

The Dog Stars by Peter Heller. Now available. This was a “Waiting on Wednesday” pick for me a few weeks ago, and now I don’t have to wait anymore! Well, actually I do, because I have a bunch of books that must be read first.

Wonder by R. J. Palacio. Now available. All I can say is WOW. I just finished reading this amazing story for my book club, and even though I don’t normally have time to read Middle Grade books, this is one that I highly recommend for everyone. I cried, I laughed, I cheered. This one is going to win awards, just wait and see.

What’s on your shelves this week?
