Summer Bloody Summer

It’s official. I am a Dexter fanatic. Well, I have been for a while, but lately Showtime has been running past seasons of the show to gear up for Season 7, which premiers in September, and my fanaticism is in high gear at the moment.  As I watch these past episodes, I am reminded of how much I love the characters, Dexter in particular.  It’s especially gratifying to watch the complete series in order from the beginning. You can see how the characters grow and change, and how the actors “become” their characters just a little more each season. Michael C. Hall is Dexter. At least to me. I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to see him as any other character, even after Dexter has aired its final episode.

So I’m watching all six seasons in order on DVD.  This will not take as long as you think, because a) they are so addictive that I find myself unable to stop, even to do the things I’m supposed to be doing (reading and reviewing books, for one!) and b) there are only twelve episodes per season. (Plus, my dog Otis really enjoys lying on the bed with me while I watch, and it’s hard to tell Otis “no more TV.”)  I’m sure I’ll finish episode twelve from Season 6 long before September 30th rolls around, and I expect that will be a sad, sad day. At which point it will be time to pull out my Buffy DVDs and start watching them in order.

Season 7 begins Sunday September 30 on Showtime. After last season’s wince-inducing cliff-hanger, everyone’s wondering how on earth Dexter will get out of this mess! But I have faith in the writers to pull it off. They always have in the past.  Sadly, I just found out that Season 8 will be the last.  But let’s not worry about that now. Season 7 is right around the corner. And I have some catching up to do.

UPDATE!! I believe this video was just released at Comic Con, and it’s a much better teaser than the first one I had on this post. Enjoy the first two minutes of the premiere of Season 7!
