Waiting on Wednesday #3: PREPARE TO DIE! by Paul Tobin

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine that allows bloggers to highlight upcoming releases they are excited about.

Once again, I am happily subscribing to Publisher’s Weekly. I let my subscription go for a while, because it’s really expensive, and thought maybe I wouldn’t miss it.  But I did, so I decided to use some birthday money to re-subscribe (thanks Mom and Dad!). Now I’m better prepared to share upcoming books, like this week’s pick. Prepare to Die by Paul Tobin is about a man named Steve Clarke who suffers an accident and turns into a superhero named Reaver. Reaver’s punch takes a year of life from everyone he hits.  Wow, what a cool idea! Here’s what Goodreads has to say:

Nine years ago, Steve Clarke was just a teenage boy in love with the girl of his dreams. Then a freak chemical spill transformed him into Reaver, the man whose super-powerful fists can literally take a year off a bad guy’s life.

Days ago, he found himself at the mercy of his arch-nemesis Octagon and a whole crew of fiendish super-villains, who gave him two weeks to settle his affairs–and prepare to die.

Now, after years of extraordinary adventures and crushing tragedies, the world’s greatest hero is returning to where it all began in search of the boy he once was . . . and the girl he never forgot.

Exciting, scandalous, and ultimately moving, Prepare to Die! is a unique new look at the last days of a legend.

Paul Tobin is best known for his comic book writing, and Publisher’s Weekly gives this book a starred review.  You can visit his website here. Prepare to Die! will be released on June 5, 2012 by Night Shade Books.
