In My Mailbox #5

Welcome to In My Mailbox, hosted by The Story Siren!  I’m posting on Monday this week instead of Sunday, due to my participation in Dan Haring’s Oldsoul Blog Tour, but I have some good books to share nonetheless, and they all just happen to be indie books.  Here’s what I received this week:

The Accordo by Roberta L. Smith. Release date: May 1, 2012.  Roberta writes wonderfully atmospheric stories, and I’m really looking forward to reading more of her books.  I enjoyed her first book, The Secret of Lucienne Dove, very much.  Here’s a short description from Roberta’s website:

The Accordo was inspired by the true experience of Renaissance artist Artemisia Gentileschi. Coupled with the author’s fascination for things that can’t be explained, this fast paced story is filled with startling surprises to the very end, and is a treat for anyone who has an interest in ghosts, the paranormal, and happy endings.

Chapel Playhouse by Roberta L. Smith. Now available. I was lucky enough to get two books from Roberta.  Chapel Playhouse is another creepy story with ghosts. Here’s the description from her website:

Everybody wants something.

Pretty co-ed Casia Winfred wants a loving relationship with her boyfriend, but her boyfriend is more interested in making a college frat pay for what it did to his mentally ill brother.

Casia’s mother wants to control Casia’s life – from beyond the grave. An eccentric English Lit professor wants to keep Casia and all others away from an abandoned theater called the Chapel Playhouse. And after having a frightening premonition, psychic medium Mickey McCoy wants to figure out what all this adds up to and save Casia’s life.

Chapel Playhouse is a modern gothic tale filled with twists and turns. It involves a haunted theatre, but there’s nothing typical about it. Just as you think you’ve figured things out, along comes another surprise.

You can visit Roberta’s website here for information.

Betrayed by Ednah Walters. Release date: June 2012.  I was invited to participate in a blog tour for Betrayed, so look for my stop on the tour in June.  I love the cover of this book, and not just because of the naked male torso!  Here’s what Goodreads has to say:

Lil isn’t just an average teenager. She’s one of the Nephilim–the descendants of humans and angels–which gives her some serious psi skills and a mission for redemption. Just when Lil thinks she’s found a balance between her normal life with human friends and her training to become a Guardian, she’s warned that someone close to her will betray her. When the boy she loves starts acting strangely and one of her human friends acquires a supernatural ability, Lil begins to realize that someone is manipulating the people she loves… and won’t stop until she’s been lured to the dark side.

Socialpunk by Monica Leonelle. Available soon. Monica also invited me to be part of her blog tour in April.  Socialpunk is the first in a trilogy, and it looks pretty good. And I love the cover! Here’s the description:

Socialpunk centers on Ima, who is stuck in a virtual reality that functions more like a prison, and Vaughn, who lives in a dark, technology-driven future, but manages to save Ima from the people trying to destroy her. If you enjoy books like Ender’s Game, Neuromancer, or The Hunger Games, you would probably enjoy this book too!

What’s in your mailbox this week?
