Ode to Joss Whedon, #1 – DR. HORRIBLE’S SING-ALONG BLOG

You may have guessed from the name of this blog that I love Joss Whedon.  I haven’t talked about him much, but that’s about to change. Since the end of the year is fast approaching, I’m feeling very nostalgic, which makes me think of how long it’s been since Joss’s last project (Dollhouse) and how long it’s been since I’ve watched Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog (years!).

Back in 2007 or ’08, Joss was between projects and decided to create a short internet film that would be released in several parts over a period of time. You could go to the Dr. Horrible website and watch (for free) that day’s episode.  You could then go to iTunes and purchase the episode for a paltry amount and have it forever on your computer.  Later, the whole thing (45 minutes or so) was released on DVD, to the delight of us Whedon fans.  Dr. Horrible is a musical, written and directed by Whedon, who also wrote the songs, along with his brother Jed.  It stars  Nathan Fillion, Neil Patrick Harris, and Felicia Day and is the story of Dr. Horrible (Neil Patrick Harris), a super-villain who is trying to get accepted into the Evil League of Evil.  Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion) is his arch-nemesis and Penny (Felicia Day) is the girl they are both trying to get.  Dr. Horrible is the funniest thing you’ll ever watch, and the songs are pretty catchy too.  Here’s a small taste:

Please, please, please watch this movie!  It pretty much embodies everything I love about Joss Whedon.

You can purchase Dr. Horrible here.
